The Management Development route - Open to Senior NCOs

The Diploma in Management Development (one year)...

Certain Senior NCOs may qualify for direct entry onto the Diploma in Management Development (DMD) which can lead to the respected Newcastle Business School MBA, soon to be available as a distance learning programme. The Diploma is a one year programme aimed at developing the managerial knowledge and skills you already possess. As you would expect, it is very specific to each individual student, examining ways in which you can broaden your existing knowledge and skills in people management, operations and information.

Additionally it provides you with a comprehensive insight into how different business organisations operate as well as their functions and people. The DMD is also recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Programme structure

It is a broad-based programme that takes a practical approach to the exploration of management practice focusing on four main areas:

The topics studied on the programme are aligned to the Management Standards at NVQ Level 4.The programme is assessed through a variety of work-based assignments rather than formal examinations. These assignments involve a number of learning activities encouraging self-reflection as well as the investigation and analysis of workplace situations. These are designed to develop an understanding of management theory and its relevance and application in the workplace.

Course Fees

The programme fee for 2007 is £1200 - but remember you can reduce this figure to as little as £240 through the ELCAS (Enhanced Learning Credits) scheme. The scheme can subsidise your fees by up to a substantial 80% - for more information please visit www.EnhancedLearningCredits.com

...Leading to the Newcastle Business School MBA

On completion of this Diploma, there is the option to progress onto further programmes of study, such as the respected Newcastle Business School MBA.

The MBA is designed as a career development generalist programme on which the management learning process can build. It meets the needs of businesses, professional bodies and individual career development - not only to add significant value in your current role but also to help you realise your full potential when you move on from the Army.

The overall aim of the MBA programme is to enable you, through the development of your management and leadership capabilities, to become more effective and efficient in a rapidly changing, complex and knowledge based economy. It has been designed to maximise the potential of candidates who already have significant managerial experience and who have the capability and ambition to advance to the highest level.

If you feel that the MBA is not appropriate for you there is the opportunity to join the Applied Management Route at the second half of the Diploma.
